My dad bought a '87 softtail and
sold his '71 hardtail sportster, at this time I was about 11 and
I cried my eyes out, I swore to God the bike was gonna be mine
and I had big plans for it too, well I started saving all my
birthday money and when I was 14 I had about $200, and thought
maybe I could find a basketcase for like $500, and my parents
would loan me the rest of the money. Well I started looking and
was in for the a rude awakening, you cant get a Harley for $500.
Well I found a bike for $2000 in the paper that had been for
sale for like 2 years and never sold I E-mailed the people to
see why they couldn't get rid of it, they told me it was
registered as a non op. for about 6 years and it had been
sitting in a back yard in San Diego and weather had taken its
toll on the bike, they said it ran but the carbs were
clogged up form sitting, they said if I came to pick it up that
weekend I could have it for $1000.
