He bought a 1965electric-start unit from Mike DeClerk of D&N Choppers of Memphis and that’s when the real hassles started because NOTHING fit.

After bashing his head against a stone wall for four days trying to make the damned thing fit, he began to wish that he had his old kickstarter back again.

In the end, he had to cut a quarter-inch off the left motor case, rearrange the bolt pattern of the inner primary, jack the transmission up an eighth of an inch in front and relocate the chain oiler.

After getting everything lined up just right, Ingram figured he had the biggest problem solved, until he tried to install his new Paughco oil tank/battery. It didn’t even begin to fit. So he had to build his oil tank in the rear fender (a five-inch A.E.E. flat unit), and custom make a battery box.
After all the hassles with the electric starter unit, everything else was an easy downhill run.
